How do Japanese People show affection in different ways to people in Europe, and if so how?
Q. In school I have to do an art project on Japan and I bought a book, sadly it does not mention much culture just the country itself, so I was wondering if Japanese people have different gestures to europeans. If they do , how? I read that a show of affection in japan is for the man to lay on the woman's lap, is this true? Also, do they celebrate Valentine's day? Thank you ^^ Arigatou!!

A. I lived in Japan for 2 years. I noticed they rarely, if ever, show public displays of affection. You will almost never see a Japanese couple holding hands or kissing in public. This was purely my experience when I was there. I liked that. Why? In Europe I noticed many people tend to show affection in public. I don't mind the holding hands, but when people start to make out in front of me, and I saw that a lot in Europe, it annoys me. Why? I don't need to see it. As for the man laying on a woman's lap, I don't know.

How do big cats such as tigers, and lions communicate affection and a show of comfort to one another?
Q. What do they do to show affection and comfort for one another? For example; if a cub or even an adult big cat is frightened, panicked, irritated or angry -- how does the mother or other pack members comfort them to calm them down, and offer protection?

Is it a sign of affection when your cat licks you?
Q. I know licking is grooming normally but does this mean it's due to affection? My cat licks my hand often when I stroke her. Maybe she can taste food there, but she also licks my arm, has once licked my leg and will lick my nose if I rub noses with her!

A. Hi, Yes it is, they say it comes from their mother, when she used to groom her kittens, your cat thinks you are grooming her so she is grooming you back, i love it.

What can I do with undesirable affection?
Q. Like, I guess I'm just so polite and kind and whatever, and oftentimes, my acquaintances would get really close with me and do things like cuddle, sit on my lap, hold my hand and show the type of affection that only couples display. The only problem is that we're not a couple. This has happened multiple times, each with a different person. How can I get them to stop doing this without being rude or nasty about it? I honestly don't know how.

How much of a dog licking you is showing affection and how much of it is because they like your skin oils?
Q. It seems that when dogs lick you they are not necessarily showing affection but may just like the taste of the oil on your skin. How much of their licking is affection and how much is the latter?
Asked by flabbergasted - Sun Oct 25 23:22:44 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Kinda depends on where & how they're licking you. Around the mouth is generally a submissive thing, kinda like subordinate pups & wolves licking more dominate members of the pack. Legs & arms, etc. is more a taste thing for oils, salt, some like body lotion, etc. HTH

What are the actions rabbits do for affection?
Q. I have a bunny, Tapioca, about 7 months old and I'm still a little curious about his behavior because I'm still a tad new on this whole owning a rabbit business. He likes to push his head underneath or inside my hand whenever he's close enough, and I'm not sure whether it means he wants to be pet or not but I do it anyways. Is this a effort to get himself pet or something? If it is what other things do rabbits do for affection?

A. Hey, having 6 rabbits myself, Rabbits are Prey animals, and as much as we train them in our homes, to be our pets, they still see us as predators. (having eyes in front of us and not on the side of our heads) However rabbits, will get used to you, and putting his head inside your hand is his natural instinct for digging and nestling into a hole. so comfort with his mother. If you do have rabbits in your home though, I warn you now they chew through phone wires, do droppings under the sofa, and generally ruin anything nice! And be careful when leaving them outside, for the foxes!! I suggest you get a book on rabbits for pets also GOOD luck!

A. your smell is on them and because of this she is loving on you, not your shoes. cats have secretion glands in that area around where her whiskers are so by rubbing her face and whiskers on your shoes she is leaving her scent on them and its her way of telling other animals( especially other cats),"shes all mine, she belongs to me and me only".

How does a bearded dragon show you affection?
Q. Do they show affection towards their owners? Ive noticed minor things like he wont sleep unless he is near me, and also, he is attached to my room. I took him out into the living room and he jumped off the couch and ran into my room really really fast. He stood in the doorway every time that happened, its happened like 6 times. But do beardies show their owners affection? If so, how?

A. Yes, beardies are completely capable of showing affection toward their owners, some more than others. For example, mine loves to snuggle, won't got to sleep unless I hold him, and he'll run to me when he's scared or stressed. How long have you had him? It shouldn't take you long to be able to read his emotions very well.

What is the name of the disorder when someone cannot feel any affection towards anybody?
Q. With no malicious or hostile feelings or the intention to destroy the lives of other people, simply no affection. Can it be treated somehow? Serious answers please.
Asked by ted - Sat Jul 29 06:04:36 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I've heard of a condition called emotionless psychopathy, which is along those lines but perhaps with hostility involved. It's been a while since I studied this, but there is a psychologist called John Bowlby who did a lot of research into attachment so it might be worth putting him into a search engine and seeing if you get any joy. You could also search under depression - one type of depression is called dysthymic disorder which could show similar symptoms.

A. What has caused your relationship to be rocky? Maybe there is an underlying issue you need to sort out? If not, slowly start to introduce affection whilst out in public. Try just leaning in close while sitting together, or placing your hand on her back to guide her. Over time she will feel more comfortable with these gestures, and may start to offer her own in return. Don't rush her though, if she isn't comfortable, wait a little while before trying again. Good luck

My cat bites me out of affection. How can I get him to stop?
Q. When my cat wants attention or to be petted, he will crawl up on my lap and start purring, rubbing his face against my cheek, kneading my face with his paws, and then bite either my nose or my chin. Sometimes he bites my earlobe. It is quite painful, and I want him to stop biting me. But how can I get him to stop without ruining the ritual of affection? Why does he bite at this time?

A. Some cats will suddenly bite while they're being petted. This behavior isn't well understood, even by experienced animal behaviorists. For whatever reason, petting which the cat was previously enjoying, apparently becomes unpleasant. Biting is the cat's signal that she has had enough petting. Cats vary in how much they'll tolerate being petted or held. Although people often describe their cats as biting "out of the blue" or without warning, cats do generally give several signals before biting. You should become more aware of your cat's body postures, and cease petting or stop any other kind of interaction before a bite occurs. Signals to be aware of include: Restlessness Your cat's tail beginning to twitch Your cat's ears turning… [cont.]

Next take it slow u will not change over night so start by maybe giving him a back rub or tell him where he could kiss u that u enjoy. Try to work it out. U don't want to continue the same pattern that u endured growing up.

A. Thats a very tough situation you have! I think what might be healthy is trying to get yourself to really realise that whoever you are with is just trying to show their affection towards you, its not because they're trying to be creepy. And maybe if you explain this to who you are with and try to just gently get yourself used to physical contact just step by step. Hope that helps a little :)
